Big Day of Giving is officially open, and this year, we’re doing things a little differently!
For five years, our BIQTPOC community has poured their hearts, energy, and resources into keeping this vision alive. Our community has truly done more than enough to sustain us. Now, as we look toward the future, we are leaning on our accomplices to help carry the weight.
In 2021, we started Love Liberated because we had to. We are Black, Indigenous, Queer, and Trans people of color (BIQTPOC) who realized the spaces we needed for healing and sexual wellness simply didn’t exist in Sacramento. So, we built them ourselves.
As we talk about Big Day of Giving today, there is a local reality we have to face together. Every year, our region shows incredible generosity, raising over $13 million in a single day. Yet, historically, Black-led LGBTQ+ nonprofits receive less than 5% of the funds earmarked for advocacy and human services.
Nationally, less than 1% of philanthropic dollars reach LGBTQ+ organizations. When you narrow that down to Black LGBTQ+ leadership, the funding almost disappears.
This year, we are looking to bridge that gap with our goal of $2,000.
When you support Love Liberated, you aren’t just donating to a “cause.” You are funding three specific pillars of liberation that mainstream systems often overlook:
Inclusive education Most sexual education ignores the intersection of race and identity. In fact, less than 10% of LGBTQ+ students of color receive sex ed that reflects both their orientation and their racial background. We provide the agency they’ve been denied.
Healing BIQTPOC individuals experience 2x the rate of psychological distress compared to their white LGBTQ+ counterparts. We offer the healing spaces necessary to move from trauma to pleasure.
Creativity Research shows that engaging in community-based “play” can reduce depression by up to 30% in queer youth of color.
If just 40 people in our extended community contribute $50, we hit our $2,000 goal.
By investing in us, you are making Sacramento’s “sanctuary” status real for the people who need it most. Thank you for standing with us, for believing in BIQTPOC leadership!
We thank you in advance!
