We are so honored and so excited to introduce the film The Watermelon Woman at The Crocker Art Museum as part of The Black Feminism Series!

The Watermelon Woman (1996), written, directed, and edited by Cheryl Dunye, holds a HUGE place in film history as the first feature film directed by a Black lesbian. The story follows Cheryl, a young Black lesbian filmmaker, as she sets out to uncover the forgotten legacy of a 1930s actress known as “The Watermelon Woman.” Her search unfolds into a powerful exploration of history, identity, and the erasure of Black queer women in media.

Join us on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at The Crocker Art Museum at 6:00 PM
This event is open to all (ages 18+)

Tickets can be found here!

This virtual event is presented by Love Liberated and Haus of Do!

We curated this BIQTPOC exclusive virtual event to create more opportunities for people to meet each other from the comfort of home. Ten Lucky People in the local dating pool, ages 25-40, are going to be presenting why they should be your boo. Each of these ten people will create a 5-7 slide deck or 5 minute presentation. After each Presentation, there will be a brief Q&A from the audience and host. The audience will be joining with their own drink, snacks, or other refreshment. The audience will leave with inspiration, the desire to be braver, connections, and possibly even a date or two.
